a Weekend in the Nation's Capitol

Steven and I of course had to plan a trip down to D.C. for a weekend because we figured we were so close and it would be worth it to see where all of our country's magic happens. So we planned to take a bus out on Thursday night and only stayed until Saturday night. Now I know that sounds a bit weird, but that was the cheapest way to go.

We had such a good time! It was ridiculously hot and humid there but other than that it was amazing. We say almost everything we wanted to see including the Smithsonian museums of Air and Space, Natural History, American History and the Holocaust Museum. We saw how money is made and what the new $100 bill will look like (coming out in Feb. 2011) we even got to visit the Arlington National Cemetery where Pres. Kennedy is buried along with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We visited the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Monument, the Korean War Monument and the WWII Monument. We got to tour through our Nation's Capitol building, which was really beautiful and very insightful. We didn't, however get to see the White House. Now I know most people would go see the White House as their first stop, but we literally just didn't have enough time to fit it in. We did get to catch a glimpse of it on our bus tour and that was good enough for us. :)

We took a cab ride over to the most quaint town in all of America, Georgetown. We decided to go take a look because Steven is really thinking of attending Georgetown for his grad program (which is Sports Marketing) We loved seeing the sights and the beautiful old-time buildings, but unfortunately didn't even get to see the Georgetown Campus. We realized we may have planned too short of a vacation, but we still felt it was worth it! We did get to see this cute little bakery called D.C. Cupcakes that had a mile long line out the door! We didn't understand why all of these people where waiting until we turned on the TV that night to TLC when up pops D.C. Cupcakes! ha we had no idea we were at a famous bakery! But all in all Georgetown was so beautiful. I would live there in a heartbeat.

Such a fun weekend we had running from monument to museum. I think everyone should visit D.C. at least once in their life! And maybe make sure to add the White House to the list of must-sees ;)

A more than Eventful Weekend

Steven and I love theme parks, so it only seemed obvious that we had to visit one while we are out here! We looked it up and found a Six Flags Great Adventure in Jersey. So one day we took a two hour bus out there and had ourselves a little fun! We got sweaty, rained on and tired... but it was worth it!

The next day we met up with a few people from Steven's work who had a car and wanted to take us tubing down the Delaware River, So we packed up super early and starting making the two hour trek down there. Only to find out halfway through that there were going to be thunder storms all day long! We decided to turn around and drive all the way back to Jersey City and eat at an Arby's. (we literally drove about two and a half hours just to eat at this silly Arby's.) After filling ourselves full with a little more than just food we decided we had to finish our day with something grand or this trip would be for nothing!

Thats when we came upon Medieval Times. Now just for the record they almost had to drag me into this place because I am NOT a fan of things like this! But Steven sees the one in Vegas and every time we go down there he begs me to see it. So I knew at some point in our life we would have to go to this ridiculous place. And ridiculous it was!

Everyone got to wear a certain colored hat which represented a knight (and where your table was). They feed you this elaborate three course dinner, which of course you get to eat entirely with your hands... Meanwhile you get to cheer for your colored Knight in some battle that nobody really understood. Needless to say, we had a ball! I was glad they pushed me to do it because I got to laugh the entire night at Medieval jokes!

Typical Tuesday

So I was walking home from work the other day and this is what I saw...

Just this cute little truck with the Coach logo on it. (With the adorable new Poppy collection on the side. I highly recommend you check it out because it's that cute!)

So I walked closer and realized people were lining up for some ice cream! I went to get a closer look and all I heard was that

Coach was giving away FREE Ice Cream! How lucky am I to live in NYC?

I'll let you be the judge of that.

Delivery Anyone?

I know delivery isn't a new word to any of you. Its just that as soon as you reach New York, delivery has an entire different meaning.

Of course pizza probably isn't on the top of the list here. No here you can have anything delivered from dinner, to late night cravings for homemade cookies, to even something like dog food or pet supplies! Yes thats right. they deliver.

So lets just say we like to take advantage of those boys on bikes.

We had the greatest dinner the other night from a place called the Mac Bar. Now it wasn't a bar at all. In fact it was a place that only sold Macaroni and Cheese! Of course it was better than just plain old mac and cheese... and look at how it came!

Secondly we fell in love with this dessert place that actually can have their dessert shipped to all over the country! And you better believe that long after New York is through Steven and I will still order this stiff! (thats how great it is)

Whats it called? Rice to Riches.

What the heck is that?

It's actually rice pudding. Now before you all start to cringe a little let me just tell you this is no ordinary rice pudding. This is 20 flavors of the most amazing pudding you have ever eaten in your life! (my personal favorite happens to be the French Toast kind. Steven's is Tiramisu)

Best part is... They deliver! This is also the first place we are taking my Mom when she gets into the city because it's that amazing!

A day of Freedom

Independence

Such a wonderful word.

July 4th is such a special day and we were so lucky to spend it in New York City.

We spent 5 1/2 hours waiting for the Macy's firework spectacular to happen over the Hudson river. We had a good time with some friends we have made out here and spent the whole day eating and enjoying the shade! We were also very lucky we got there so early because there were millions of people who came out to see those fireworks!

At the end of the day we were so grateful for living in such a beautiful country and the wonderful freedoms we enjoy!

Brooklyn trip

From the beginning of us moving to New York, everyone has asked if we had walked the Brooklyn bridge. Well we figured it was a must-see since it sounded like such a main attraction. So this Saturday we got up enough courage to walk the bridge! We were super excited because it's only two subway stations down, a quick walk across the bridge and there you are at Grimaldi's Pizzeria (which is world famous by the way). We thought how fun!

What we didn't expect was this New York heat....

So there we were walking across this crazy bridge just dying! ha It actually wasn't too bad but we just couldn't believe how hot it was. As soon as we got off the bridge we thought ok where is our famous pizza place, we are starving! So we walked down the street a ways until we saw this huge group of people and we thought well this must be it. Little did we know that "this must be it" was a two and a half hour stand in the blistering heat and face melting humidity OUTSIDE just to wait to get a table! We couldn't believe it.

We found a little park right down the street so we took the pizza to go and just decided to sit under a tree. We still waited forever but it was ok because I completely forgot how amazing laying on the grass was! We haven't even seen grass in a good 9 months because when we left there was still snow! So we had a nice time.

Then, there is this famous Brooklyn Ice Cream factory that everyone has to try. So after eating literally the greatest pizza ever we went down to this little factory to get some ice cream! and what do we find? Another stupid line... outside.... We were starting to feel the sun beat down pretty hard on our faces now. But we didn't care because Ice Cream was on its way!

After literally spending the entire afternoon outside we decided it was time to head home. Luckily the subway could take us back to Manhattan! We were happy we walked the bridge and decided this has to be on the list for my Mom when she comes! Grimaldi's has the travel channel over there all the time because its like a world destination! Ok maybe not that big. But they sure satisfied us!

Saturday Boating

So as you may know, we like to spend our Saturdays doing something we feel is productive and touristy. Just so we don't waste any precious time here and get cool stories out of it! Well last weekend that didn't really happen. We were so dead from the week before that we slept in until about 10. So right there that tells you it was a bad start. haha but we couldn't help it! So we decided to try for some Wicked lottery tickets for the 2pm show. As we were waiting in line Steven said we had absolutely nothing else planned for the day and if we didn't get these tickets we would just be out of luck. So of course what happens?

OUR NAME DOESN'T GET CALLED!

So now what?

Well it was off to Central Park to see if we could kill some time. After realizing it was way too hot to do a dang thing there, we went by the lake and saw row boats! We hopped in line and there we were. The lake was a lot cooler and we actually had a pretty good time!

It was only $12 to rent the boat and it was so much fun! We both took turns rowing (and as you can see i struggled with my part) and we got to see the most famous Central Park bridge (it's in the bottom corner pic. Kinda hard to tell but thats it! ha) We had a great time and it was fun just to chill out for the day!

Ha so of course... I have a show update...

We didn't think we were going to see any shows this week and we ended up seeing three! But I also forgot to update from the week before... So there are quite a few! ha I believe we are on show number 9.

9. Promises, Promises. Now for those of you who know Sean Hayes (the gay boy in Will & Grace) He is pretty much the most hilarious man ever. He was the leading star and we loved him! We actually went to see the show because of Kristin Chenoweth, who of course was the most famous Galinda we know... But she wasn't that great. She was good, and it was cool to hear her sing, but not that star we were looking for. Still, a very funny show!

10. Tony 'n Tina's wedding. OK so this wasn't on the countdown but Steve thought it looked funny so we went and saw it. He was right! It starts off like your actually going to this crazy Italian couples wedding. You have the ceremony, reception, food, champaign toasts (Which by the way we were the only ones not drinking. ha) All that good stuff! The cast was hilarious because they all acted like real family and a real crazy one at that! The food was good, the people were great, but it wasn't the best show we have seen. haha

11. Lend me a Tenor. Now this was our first PLAY we have seen. I know what your thinking.... "Kylie you two have seen more plays this month than I have ever seen in my life!" ha no. All of those have been MUSICALS. This show was strictly acting and maybe only two songs. Super hilarious though! The sidekick from National Treasure, Justin Bartha was in it (he steals the show, Soooo funny!) and a couple of other famous actors like Tony Shalhoub and Anthony LaPaglia. It was super cool to see famous people from TV that close to your face!

12. Rock of Ages. OK go download this music right now. Its that good! You all know it and will all be rocking out to it by the end of my post! haha this of course was a show set in the 80's with all its guts and glory. It is a little sketchy at times, so no kids allowed but it is a must see! I promise you you'll be singing those songs for days!

13. Jersey Boys. "Oh what a night!" (picture me singing that song) Such a great show! Oh I can't get over it. Literally. I actually told Steven this may be my new favorite. I think it's because I'm way into the old time stuff (hence the reason why I loved Chicago so much) it was set back in the 60's with the band called the Four Seasons. All of that great 60's music you love, that isn't played by Elvis was played by these guys! We had front row, but there was a staircase in our way... haha it was so amazing though! Go check out this music too after you listen to Rock of Ages ;)

So thats it so far! Ha I can't even keep up. As soon as I post this Steven will say "Oh lets see another show tonight!" haha but we love it. We are pretty sure we are more than halfway over too! Woooooo! We can see our goal from here! (remember it was 20 shows) You'll be seeing more on our latest!
